Critical Foundational Skills
Reading Plus® courses develop the critical visual and perceptual skills that allow students to focus their energies on reading to learn rather than reading itself. Most of us assume that effective reading behaviors develop automatically as children learn to read aloud. Unfortunately, this is not typically the case.

By the time we reach the intermediate grades, habitual reading behaviors emerge that will either facilitate or inhibit our effectiveness in reading for the rest of our lives. These behaviors involve our ability to coordinate our eyes, track along lines of text, and quickly and accurately recognize and store words in short-term memory. These basic skill behaviors are unconscious and cannot be controlled, but can be developed with proper training.
